Will Palmer storms to imperious Monaco victory

Will Palmer surged to an impressive Formula Renault Eurocup victory on the Streets of Monaco this morning (Saturday) with a commanding drive from the front in his R-ace GP-prepared machine to make his mark in front of the Grand Prix weekend crowd.

The BRDC Superstar qualified top of his group in Friday's pole position battle, to guarantee himself a first-place starting position for the opening encounter of the weekend. Will immediately made the most of his advance starting position as the 25-minute race, launching cleanly away from the front of the grid as the pack streamed through Sainte Devote and up the hill at Beau Rivage for the first time.

From there, Will remained firmly in control of the principality's streets, coolly handling pressure from Sacha Fenestraz to remain in the lead. Will remained utterly composed as the Frenchman pursued him, setting a number of extremely quick lap times, to buy himself a little extra breathing space.

Ultimately, it was a fine victory for the Sussex driver as he completed a consummate victory on the legendary street circuit, winning by more than one-and-a-half seconds from Fenestraz, with Belgian team-mate Max Defourny completing the podium.

Follwing the race, Will brought his car around to the start-finish straight for the traditional park up on the grid and celebrations on the royal box podium. As a result of his victory, Will re-takes the championship lead from R-ace GP stablemate Robert Shwartzman, who was only able to finish fourth.

Will is back in Formula Renault action tomorrow (Sunday) morning, when he will start from second position, alongside Fenestraz on the front row.
