Palmer completes Monaco double podium with third in race two
Will Palmer followed up his victory the first Formula Renault Eurocup race of Monaco Grand Prix weekend with a third place finish in this morning's (Sunday) safety-car-interrupted second race.
Starting from second position, the R-ace GP driver made a good start to the race, slotting cleanly into second position behind pole-sitter Sacha Fenestraz, as the pack streamed through St Devote for the first time.
The BRDC Superstar suffered a moment on the exit of the swimming pool chicane later in the lap, which allowed Robert Shwartzman past into second place, but he masterfully controlled the car to avoid any damage to his front wing or suspension. The Sussex driver then coolly fended off the attention of Dan Ticktum behind as he looked to capitalise on Will's loss of momentum.
Will watchfully defended his position for the next lap before beginning to pull away from Ticktum and consolidate his podium position.
From there, Will was able to run comfortably in third place and remained there untroubled until a late safety-car period following an incident at Beau Rivage, which effectively brought the race to a premature end as the final laps were completed in formation.
