Will Palmer Hungary for more success in Budapest

Will Palmer returns to action in the Formula Renault Eurocup Championship this weekend (1/2 July), and aims to consolidate his championship lead at the Hungaroring in Budapest.

Will has had a month to savour his winning weekend at Monaco, which propelled him back into the championship lead. With three victories in the opening eight races, Palmer currently heads R-ace GP team-mate Robert Shwartzman by nine points.

This weekend presents the BRDC Superstar with an additional opportunity to press  home his advantage as this is the first of three triple-header events on the 2017 calendar. This means that Will's schedule includes an extra race on Sunday.

Home of the Hungarian Grand Prix, the tight and technical 2.7-mile circuit is often compared to Monaco, and both qualifying sessions before the two races, held on Saturday and Sunday will be crucial. The latest round kicks off a busy July for Palmer, who will also compete at Germany's Nurburgring and Austria's Red Bull Ring later in the month.

Although the Hungaroring has a reputation for being a tough circuit for overtaking, last year Will battled from 17th to a top ten finish in the opening race of the event in one of the strongest performances of his rookie year in the category.

Will said: "After a few weeks' break it's great to finally be getting back racing again. Hungary is a track I raced at last year and I really enjoyed it - it is one of the more traditional F1 tracks; twisty with little margin for error. We have an extra test day on Thursday so I should be very familiar with the circuit by the time we get racing on Saturday. It's also a three-race weekend, so there are a lot of points on offer. The nature of the track means it's very difficult to overtake here, so it will be important to nail qualifying to set myself up well for the races. Hopefully we can challenge for more podiums and wins!"
