Will Palmer heads to home Eurocup round with title lead
Will Palmer returns to action at Silverstone this weekend (13/14 May), leading the 2017 Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 championship standings following a win last time out.
The 20-year-old BRDC SuperStar took a dominant victory at Monza, the home of the Italian Grand Prix, when the single-seater championship got underway last month. Together with a fourth place finish in the opening round, Will left Italy leading the standings by one point over rival Sacha Fenestraz from France.
Will returns to Silverstone after a strong performance in his debut Formula Renault season, recording two podiums at the British Grand Prix venue. Before this he took two commanding wins from three races in his BRDC Formula 4 Championship-winning year.
The Southwater racer heads one of the most competitive fields in the category's history, with Will joined at the R-ace GP team by returning race winner Max Defourny. There are also several FIA Formula 4 Champions on the grid including Dutch driver Richard Verschoor, Chinese racer Ye Yifei and Brit Max Fewtrell.
Will said: "After a strong start to the season I'm really looking forward to racing on home soil at Silverstone this weekend. It's a track I really enjoy with lots of high speed corners, and I've always gone well there in the past so I'm feeling confident ahead of the weekend."
Two races will be held on the 3.6-mile Grand Prix circuit in Northamptonshire, with qualifying taking place on Saturday at 09:00. Race one gets underway at 14:00 on Saturday with the second and final encounter of the weekend taking place the next day at 13:45.
