Will featured in latest BRDC Bulletin
After a stellar season in 2015, Will has been featured prominently in the latest BRDC Bulletin, the quarterly journal distributed to members of the British Racing Drivers' Club. The 18-year-old is profiled in a two-page article following his McLaren Autosport BRDC Award (MABA) win and is also covered in stories recapping the annual BRDC Awards, and the progress of BRDC Rising Stars.
After an incredible campaign in BRDC Formula 4, Will claimed the title having taken 12 wins from the 24 races and was subsequently nominated for the prestigious MABA, along with five other talented young British single-seater drivers. After fitness and personal tests, in addition to a two-day on-track assessment at Silverstone, Will was announced as the winner at the glamorous Autosport Awards ceremony at Grosvenor House, London in December.
His superb year is recognised in the Winter 2015 issue of the BRDC Bulletin, with Scott Mitchell looking at Will's development in his young career, his remarkable season in 3025 and his family connections in motorsport. Mitchell declares: "That pressure (of elder brother Jolyon being an F1 driver and father Jonathan an ex-F1 racer) could crack a young driver, but in 2015 Will has proved to be a young man with very sturdy shoulders. Being crowned the latest winner of the McLaren Autosport BRDC Award was the culmination of the youngster's breakthrough campaign."
Elsewhere in the issue, Ian Titchmarsh examines the progress members of the BRDC Rising Stars programme have made in 2015, with Will featuring extensively. BRDC Club Secretary Gillian Carr also recaps the annual BRDC Awards held at the Grand Connaught Rooms in Covent Garden in December, where Will received the Jim Clark Trophy, in recognition of his BRDC F4 Championship victory, and the Chris Bristow Trophy, honouring his MABA win.
Owing to his success in the MABA, Will is now a Full Member of the BRDC which, together with Jonathan and Jolyon, gives the Palmer family the unprecedented and unique accolade of three Full/Life BRDC Members at the same time.
