Will Palmer joins BRDC SuperStars programme for 2016
BRDC Formula 4 Champion Will Palmer has been named as a BRDC SuperStar for 2016, recognising his position as one of UK motorsport's most promising young drivers. He joins an elite group of 12 drivers on the scheme run by the British Racing Drivers Club, having previously been a member of the BRDC Rising Stars programme.
Now in its ninth year, the BRDC SuperStars programme supports racers from a number of different disciplines from single-seaters to prototypes, touring cars to GTs. The SuperStars receive direct assistance with all aspects of professional motorsport, including help with physical and mental training, career guidance, team building skills, sponsorship advice, media training and much more.
BMW GT factory driver Alexander Sims will act as BRDC SuperStars ambassador with former touring car ace Tim Harvey remaining as the programme's Director. Will, the 2015 McLaren Autosport BRDC Young Driver of the Year, is one of three new inductees into the scheme, alongside 2013 BRDC F4 Champion Jake Hughes and last year's British GT4 title-winner and former BRDC F4 race-winner Ross Gunn.
Will said: "The SuperStars programme takes the BRDC Rising Star scheme to the next level. It is massive for my career to be a BRDC SuperStar as they recognise the best in junior motorsport who are aspiring to reach the top. It is an elite list of drivers and I am massively honoured to be part of it. I hope to do a good job and make them proud."
Tim Harvey, BRDC SuperStars Director, said: "Three of our BRDC SuperStars won major international championships in 2015 and as we enter the ninth year of the programme, I hope that success can be emulated or exceeded this year.
"I am delighted to welcome Will Palmer, Jake Hughes and Ross Gunn to the BRDC SuperStars line-up as all of them have already shown exceptional talent early in their careers. The aim, of course, of the BRDC SuperStars scheme is to help develop this talent to the point at which drivers become professional."
