Will Palmer back in action at Paul Ricard this weekend
After a three-week break, Will Palmer is back in racing
action this weekend (27/28 August) as he takes to the Circuit Paul
Ricard in France for the fifth round of the 2016 Eurocup Formula
Renault 2.0 season.
The 19-year-old is combining campaigns in both the Eurocup and
Northern European Cup Formula Renault categories this year and
returns to Eurocup duties for the first time since 16/17 July, when
he competed in the last round at the Red Bull Ring in Austria. The
2015 BRDC F4 Champion showed impressive speed throughout
that weekend on the demanding and undulating track, qualifying
in fourth place before a cruel mechanical issue halted his charge
in race one. However, Will bounced back in the second and final
race of the meeting to claim a strong sixth-place result, finishing
as the runner-up in the rookie class.
Since then, Will has been racing in the Northern European Cup
championship where he endured a difficult weekend at
Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium, with a change of chassis forcing him
to miss the first race before an opening lap crash put paid to the
second encounter. The 2015 McLaren Autosport BRDC Award winner
enjoyed a more successful weekend next time out at Assen in the
Netherlands however, claiming a best result of sixth on the
high-speed layout.
Will currently sits comfortably inside the top-10 in the
Eurocup and Northern European Cup standings as he occupies ninth
spot in both championships.
Will said: "I'm looking forward to getting back in action at Paul
Ricard for the Eurocup. We've been showing some good pace recently
and testing went well here in pre-season, so I am confident that we
can be fighting towards the front again and target some top-five
finishes to move up the championship order."
This weekend's action at the Circuit Paul Ricard in France
gets underway with two free practice sessions on Friday before
qualifying takes place at 10:30 (09:30 BST) on Saturday. Race one
follows the same day at 12:50 (11:50 BST) with qualifying for the
second race of the weekend on Sunday morning at 08:20 (07:20 BST),
with lights out to start that encounter at 11:05 (10:05
BST).
