Will seventh quickest in first Friday practice at Motorland Aragon
R-ace GP's Will Palmer set the seventh quickest time in the first Friday practice session ahead of this weekend's opening Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 championship round at Motorland Aragon in Spain. The 19-year-old was just 0.486s slower than pace-setter Jehan Daruvala in an extremely close session as the top-13 were covered by less than one second.
As the 50 minute session got underway, the 2015 BRDC Formula 4 Champion was one of the first drivers to hit the track and he was soon at the top of the timing screens as he dropped into the 1m57s. His progress was prematurely halted as the Technorace car of Italian Alex Perullo came to a halt at turn 16 eight minutes into the session.
The red flags flew as his car was being recovered but the session soon resumed and the remaining 23 Formula Renault machines took to the track. Times began to rapidly improve and Josef Kaufmann Racing's Lando Norris hit the front, with Will in sixth with a best time of 1m57.303s at the halfway stage.
As time continued to elapse, times quickened yet further but Norris remained the pace-setter until his team-mate Jehan Daruvala snatched top spot away from him as the chequered flag flew. Will, having completed 20 laps in the session, improved his time to a 1m56.636s to finish in seventh place.
The second and final session of the day takes place at 13:30 GMT ahead of qualifying tomorrow. You can follow the action through live timing on Will's official website.
