Top-10 for Will in final Eurocup practice session at Motorland Aragon
Will Palmer finished the final Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 practice session of the day at Motorland Aragon in Spain 10th quickest, ahead of this weekend's opening three races of the championship. The R-ace GP driver was less than one second slower than pace-setter Max Defourny, having posted the seventh quickest time in the morning session.
The 50-minute session got underway on the 3.3-mile circuit after lunch and the 24 drivers on the grid headed out on to the track. After 15 minutes of the session, the 2015 BRDC Formula 4 Champion sat in seventh place with a personal best lap time of 1m58.545s. The 19-year-old soon improved again however and vaulted up to fourth with a 1m56.766s, just 0.327s slower than pace-setter Max Defourny at that time.
As time continued to tick, last year's McLaren Autosport BRDC Award winner fell to ninth but continued to improve as the session headed towards its conclusion, first posting a 1m56.766s before besting that to lap the track in 1m56.740s. As Will headed on to his final lap of the session he looked to improve but he was unable to complete it due to a car going off the circuit, leaving him in 10th position.
Owing to his even numbered position in the results, Will will contest the Group A qualifying session tomorrow, which gets underway at 8:35 GMT on Saturday. Race one follows at 12:00 with race two at 17:35. The third and final race of the weekend starts at 11:25 on the Sunday, with qualifying to determine the grid before that starting at 08:00.
You can follow all the action through live timing and updates on Will's official website.
