Title within reach for Will as BRDC Formula 4 heads to Donington Park
Duo BRDC Formula 4 Championship leader Will Palmer heads to the
penultimate round of the season at Donington Park this weekend
(12/13 September), where he has the opportunity to seal the 2015
title. The BRDC Rising Star currently holds a lead of 74 points
over nearest rival Tom Jackson and needs to extend that gap by 21
points by the end of the weekend to claim the BRDC Formula 4
crown.
Will took two more dominant wins last time out at Snetterton,
taking his tally across the season to eight. The 18-year-old from
Southwater was forced into retirement in race two however as
contact between his car and that of Lanan Racing's Chris Mealin
resulted in broken rear suspension; Mealin was later excluded from
the results due to the incident.
Chris Dittmann Racing's Tom Jackson leads the chase of the
championship leader, following a triple podium at Snetterton.
Will's HHC Motorsport team-mate Harri Newey also enjoyed a trip of
top-three finishes and is 29 points further adrift of Jackson in
third.
Will got experience in another championship last weekend (5/6
September) as he made an impressive debut in the Eurocup Formula
Renault 2.0 series at Silverstone. He recorded two-top 10 finishes
from three races, including a best finish of ninth in race three
which secured him a spot on the podium as top rookie.
Donington Park is a circuit Will knows well as he finished as
runner-up in the second BRDC F4 race at the circuit last year. He
will be hoping to improve on that this weekend and claim victory to
add to his other success in 2015 at Oulton Park, Silverstone,
Snetterton and Brands Hatch.
Will said: "I'm looking forward to getting back into the F4 car at
Donington, and hopefully I can use last week's experience to come
back stronger than ever. Obviously I have one eye on the points
standings this weekend but I will just focus on doing the best job
I can and winning more races."
The BRDC F4 grid will take to the 2.5-mile Grand Prix Circuit in
Leicestershire for three races across the two-day meeting, with
qualifying getting underway at 11:20 and the Saturday with the
first race of the weekend taking place the same day at 16:35. Race
two begins on Sunday at 11:10 with the final encounter at Donington
at 15:50, with all the action being broadcast exclusively live on
Motors TV in the UK and throughout Europe.
Live timing and text updates will be available throughout
the weekend on the official Formula 4 website here, with the
regular one-hour long highlights programme available on ITV4 and BT
Sport a week following the race meeting.
