Championship leader Will tops all four practice sessions at Donington

Duo BRDC Formula 4 championship leader Will Palmer topped each of the four practice sessions held at Donington Park on Thursday (10 September) ahead of this weekend's penultimate round of the 2015 season.

In the first 40 minute session of the day, each of the 18 drivers took to the track early keen to rack up as many laps as possible. Will set the initial pace and began trading times with his HHC Motorsport team-mate Harri Newey, eventually posting a 1m29.822s, which put him 0.232s clear of 17-year-old Newey.

The Southwater racer dominated the second session, finishing 1.196s clear of Newey with Omar Ismail 1.438s back in third. Palmer had been on top of the timing screens throughout but made a big improvement in lap time with his last lap of the session following two red flags. His lap time of 1m29.160s was the fastest seen across the day by some margin.

Session three began after the lunch break and Will set an initial benchmark time of 1m30.085s. Following a brief red flag which brought the session to a halt to recover Rodrigo Fonseca's car, Will was knocked off top spot by team-mate Newey. He responded rapidly though and posted a 1m29.301s to move 0.476s clear of his team-mate, an advantage he would hold until the end of the practice.

The final 40 minute session of the day followed a similar pattern to the first three, with Will making sure to move into P1 early on. Behind the 18-year-old, second position changed hands numerous times with Ameya Vaidyanathan eventually coming out on top, 0.725s slower than Will's best time, a 1m29.440s. As the Indian racer pushed harder to improve his time he went off the circuit causing a red flag with 12 minutes remaining. With time expiring, the chequered flag flew and ensured Will would top every session across the day.

The next BRDC Formula 4 action takes place on Saturday (12 September) with qualifying getting underway at 11:20. Will can potentially claim the title this weekend, if he extends his advantage over his rivals to 95 points by the end of the weekend's action. He currently leads Tom Jackson by 74 points heading into qualifying.
