Will Palmer demonstrates strong pace ahead of Snetterton weekend
Duo BRDC Formula 4 Championship leader Will Palmer demonstrated strong pace on the Friday test day ahead of the fourth round of the 2015 season at Snetterton this weekend (11/12 July). He claimed the quickest time in the first session and finished in the top-three of the next three sessions of the day heading into Saturday's qualifying and first race.
In session one, the 18-year-old posted a fastest lap of
1m50.511s to finish 0.300s quicker than his team-mate Harri Newey.
Omar Ismail, who made his Formula 4 debut at the last round at
Silverstone, finished the 30-minute session an impressive third for
Chris Dittmann Racing, just 0.540s slower than quickest man Palmer.
Will had taken to the track after his rivals but wasted no time in
going fastest and remained there for the rest of the session.
Will enjoyed a back-and-forth duel with Omar Ismail in session two
before the 16-year-old edged ahead of him. Harri Newey stole top
spot however right at the death, with a 1m50.477s putting him
0.141s clear of Ismail in second and 0.263s ahead of Will's red,
white and blue machine.
Newey once again came out on top in session three with a lap-time 0.679s faster than Will. Fastest lap-times were traded on almost every lap, with Newey, Ismail and Palmer once again the key protagonists. Will had been on top a number of times in the session but as time ticked down, team-mate Newey put in an explosive lap to move clear.
The final session was interrupted by a lengthy red flag session,
which saw few drivers improve when the action resumed. Will had
initially set the pace with a 1m50.658s, and continued to improve
into the 1m49's but Newey managed to better Palmer's fastest time
by 0.149s, just before the red flags flew to bring the session to a
halt. As the chequered flag flew, it was Newey from Palmer and Omar
Ismail.
