Will comfortably on top in Brands Hatch Friday testing
Will Palmer was easily the quickest driver on track, as he
topped the timesheets in two of four practice sessions on the
Brands Hatch Indy circuit, ahead of this weekend's (1/2 August)
trio of races to be held on the legendary Grand Prix layout at the
Kent venue.
After sitting out the first session, Will made his mark in the
second 30-minute session by topping the timesheets ahead of Sean
Walkinshaw Racing's Jordan Albert. Will knocked Albert off top spot
early in proceedings and did not relinquish his position for the
rest of the session.
Having posted a time of 45.790s, Albert got to within 0.194s
before Will's HHC Motorsport team-mate Harri Newey moved into
second, still over a tenth of a second in arrears to the
18-year-old's best lap. The Hillspeed car of Faisal Al Zubair spun
into the gravel at Paddock Hill Bend with 10 minutes remaining to
bring out the red flag and, when the session resumed with just
under four minutes left on the clock, Will's time looked safe.
However, Albert strung together a strong lap as the chequered flag
came out but he fell 0.010s shy of Will's personal best, leaving
him second with Will at the top of the timesheets.
In the penultimate session of the day, Will impressed once again
and was just 0.083s slower than pace-setter Rodrigo Fonseca. Such
was the competitiveness of the session however, this was only good
enough for fourth.
Will held the second quickest time with 10 minutes gone, his lap
just 0.025s shy of then fastest man, Mexican Fernando Urrutia. The
Lanan Racing pairing of Jack Bartholomew and Rodrigo Fonseca began
trading times however and they vaulted to the head of the field,
with the latter eventually coming out on top by 0.048s. After a
frenetic 20 minutes, improvements became less frequent in the final
few minutes and the order remained the same with Jordan Albert
rounding out the top-five.
A dazzling lap in the final 30-minute session of the day saw Will
come out on top comfortably ahead of his BRDC F4 rivals. Midway
through the session, Will jumped to the top of the timesheets with
a 45.479s, before improving that the next time round to drop his
time to a 45.274s. easily the quickest lap seen across the day. The
Chris Dittmann Racing pairing of Omar Ismail and Tom Jackson came
closest to his time, but were still 0.174s and 0.226s adrift in
second and third respectively.
Tomorrow's (Saturday) Duo BRDC Formula 4 action gets underway with
practice on the demanding Grand Prix circuit at 09:30am, with
qualifying at 12:15pm and race one at 15:55pm. You can follow all
