Palmer leads the way as BRDC F4 field heads to Brands Hatch

The Duo BRDC Formula 4 Championship heads into the second half of the season with rounds 13, 14 and 15 on the Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit this weekend (1/2 August) with Will Palmer leading the way in the overall standings. After the first 12 races of the year, the 18-year-old holds a 25 points advantage over Mexican driver Rodrigo Fonseca with Chris Dittmann Racing's Tom Jackson trailing Will by 57 points in third.

Brands Hatch is Will's local circuit and he will be aiming to add to his tally of four victories so far this season on the legendary Grand Prix track. The 2.433-mile layout, which has hosted 14 Grands Prix races in the past, will test all drivers on the grid but the Southwater-based racer will be hoping to utilise his knowledge of racing on the demanding circuit, having competed on it twice in the series last year. Will claimed a third place finish in the first race of the year on the Grand Prix track, his maiden BRDC F4 podium, so he has good form at the venue.

It has been a great start to the season for Will who took victory in the opening race of the year at Oulton Park after claiming pole position in Cheshire. He added a podium finish in race three on Easter weekend to assume the championship lead after the opening trio of races. He suffered a challenging meeting at Rockingham with the weather compounding an error in race one, leaving him with a best finish of 5th across the weekend.

The HHC Motorsport driver bounced back strongly at Silverstone with two wins and continued his good form last time out at Snetterton. After narrowly missing out on pole position to Omar Ismail, he came home second in race one before storming to victory in the final race of the weekend. Starting third, he shot through the front-row to lead into turn one and didn't look back, taking the chequered flag 7.011s ahead of his team-mate Harri Newey in second, with Ciaran Haggerty rounding out the podium in third. That puts him in the lead of the championship heading to Brands Hatch.

Qualifying and race one of the weekend take place on Saturday (1 August) following a practice session in the morning. The pole position shoot-out begins at 12:15pm and will last 20 minutes, with lights going out at 15:55pm to start the first race of the weekend. Races two and three of the meeting will take place on Sunday (2 August) at 10:50am and 16:20pm respectively.

The final race of the weekend at Brands Hatch will be broadcast live on Motors TV in the UK and across Europe from 16:20pm. The regular one-hour long highlights programme will be available on ITV4 and BT Sport a week after the race meeting and live timing will also be available throughout the weekend with text updates on the official Formula 4 website.

The 2.443-mile circuit, which has hosted many major motorsport events including 14 Grand Prix, will provide a stern test for the entire Duo BRDC Formula 4 grid as the second half of the season gets underway this weekend.
