Dominant Friday for Will at Snetterton
Displaying the great form that saw him capture a double win last
time out at Brands Hatch, Will Palmer dominated the Friday test day
at Snetterton coming out on top in three of the four sessions ahead
of this weekend's (22/23 August) Duo BRDC Formula 4 action in
Norfolk.
Will mastered the morning's proceedings as he topped the first two
sessions on the 2.97-mile 300 circuit. With his third lap of the
session, the 18-year-old moved ahead of his HHC Motorsport
team-mate Sisa Ngebulana in the first 30-minute practice of the day
before being knocked off top spot by Chris Dittmann Racing's Omar
Ismail.
Will soon re-imposed himself at the front however and he posted a
1m50.014s to put him clear of his rivals. He subsequently continued
to lower that benchmark and eventually finished the session with a
fastest time of 1m49.649s, 0.253s clear of Ismail in second and
Harri Newey in third.
In the second session, Will extended his advantage over the rest
of the BRDC F4 grid as he once again led Omar Ismail. The BRDC
Rising Star took to the track early and within five minutes was
leading the way. He held an advantage of 0.641s over Ismail but the
Solihull youngster began closing the gap and got to within 0.434s
at the halfway stage. This spurred Will into action and he opened
up the gap again, moving a huge 1.112s clear of Ismail with a lap
time of 1m49.355s. 16-year-old Ismail managed to eat into the
advantage but still could only end the session 0.697s off Will's
pace. Indian racer Ameya Vaidyanathan was 1.021s behind in
third.
The third session of the day saw Will narrowly pipped in the dying
moments of the session by nemesis Ismail and he had to settle for
second fastest. Will had set the pace throughout most of the
30-minute on-track action as he held a slender advantage of 0.029s
heading into the final moments. However, Ismail found some extra
speed in his Chris Dittmann Racing car and finished ahead of Will
by just 0.046s.
Will re-gained his spot at the top of the timesheets as he
finished fastest in the final session of the day. He moved to the
head of the order early on and continued to improve his time as
others attempted to get close. Omar Ismail once again was Will's
closest challenger but he fell 0.369s shy of the fastest time and
had to settle for second.
Qualifying gets underway at 10:40 tomorrow, with race one
at 14:15 and you can follow all the action through live timing and
updates via the official BRDC Formula 4 website.
