Podium for Palmer at Brands Hatch

Will Palmer enjoyed an excellent day at Brands Hatch for round two of the BRDC Formula 4 Championship, taking a podium in the first race of the weekend.

Will made a flying start to the day by going fastest in the half hour practice session in the morning, which was the first running anyone had been able to do on the full GP circuit in an F4 car this year.

For qualifying, Will opted to go out at the back to get a clear track. He challenged at the sharp end throughout, and by the time the red flag came out, due to the stranded car of Michael Claessens at Surtees, with five minutes to go Will was in second.

With such little time left, it was a case of only one or two push laps remaining, and despite Will coming within hundredths of his best time from earlier, he was unable to improve. However, teammate Raoul Hyman did go quicker, and took pole position on the very last lap ahead of Arjun Maini and Will.

For race one, Will made a good start and managed to fend off George Russell at Druids on the opening lap to hold third place behind Maini and Hyman. The Cranleigh schoolboy then held position for the remainder of the race, keeping the leaders in sight the whole way. Hyman took the victory just two tenths ahead of Maini, with Palmer third.

Speaking afterwards, Will said "It's been a great day for me, qualifying third and holding that place to take my first podium of the season. There's still all to play for tomorrow though, so hopefully some setup changes which we are making tonight will help and I can challenge for more podiums!"
