Palmer takes maiden pole at Thruxton
Will Palmer
claimed his first pole position in the Ginetta Junior Championship
at Thruxton today (Saturday).
Rounds five and six of the championship got off to a great start
for Will, who topped the damp practice session just ahead of
teammate Harry Woodhead.
With confidence high heading into qualifying, Palmer was first out
on track and initially set the pace in the opening stages. Woodhead
however soon responded by going fastest by two tenths.
Will then went even faster by two tenths from Woodhead with only
minutes to go, and although Woodhead was able to improve on his
last lap, it was Palmer who ended up on pole and who will start
race one from first position.
Woodhead's late improvement did mean that Will was demoted to
second for race two, but with the front pair clear of the rest of
the field, Palmer will be hoping for his first win in the
series.
Race one gets underway at 10:40 tomorrow, and race two
will start at 15:50 and will be broadcast live on
ITV4.
