Highs and lows for Palmer at Oulton Park

Will Palmer's weekend started strongly, finishing second in the opening practice session behind teammate Harry Woodhead.

It was a very nice weekend, sunny and hot throughout, however this caused problems for the tyres, as they were overheating and losing performance. Therefore, the team decided on an unusual mid-session pit stop to cool them down.

This strategy worked out very well with Will qualifying second to his teammate Harry Woodhead. With the grid for race two decided on each person's second fastest qualifying laps, because Ollie Chadwick had set two very similar laptimes, Palmer would start third for the second race.

At the start of the first race, Ollie Chadwick got a very good start from third on the grid, and the two came together at the first corner which forced Will into the barrier. Palmer did manage to get the car going, but being twenty seconds from the next car, eleventh place was all that he could do.

Determined to make amends in the second race, Will made a decent start to hold third at the first corner as Ollie Chadwick took the lead from Harry Woodhead. This was to be short-lived as Woodhead regained the place that lap, and one lap later Palmer followed suit with an excellent move at Lodge, diving from the outside to the inside at the last moment to take second position.

Will quickly  built a gap of around five seconds to the car behind, now Keith Donegan, and then controlled the gap to the end to claim his fourth podium of the year.

"Overall, it has been a very up and down weekend for me. Race one was a huge disappointment, as I definitely feel that if it wasn't for my mistake at the first corner I could have challenged Harry for the win. I was however very pleased with my drive in race two to take second, and I have held second place in the championship, so I can't be too disappointed with the weekend as a whole."

Will is next in action on the 22nd June at Croft circuit for rounds nine and ten of the Ginetta Junior Championship, where he will be aiming to finally take his first win.
