Disappointing end of season for Palmer

Will Palmer had a testing end to the year at Brands Hatch, with a thirteenth and a DNF.

Palmer began the weekend well, finishing fourth in opening practice on Saturday with the pace to have been second, being near the top of the times throughout the damp session.

Feeling confident going into qualifying, having taken a stunning second place at Silverstone last time out, an untested tyre change led to a dramatic shift in balance, which Will was still getting to grips with in a short fifteen minute session. The main issue was running wide, causing laps to be taken away.

As a result of this Palmer finished the session with an eighth and ninth place grid slot for the races.

In race one, Will got a good start, initially passing Harry Woodhead to take seventh, but Woodhead then repassed Will, and Oli Basey-Fisher followed through, dropping him to ninth.

Then, while catching the group ahead, a moment at Surtees put Palmer on the wet grass, and with next to no grip he could do little to avoid a spin. Will recovered and put in some strong laps, but eventually had to settle for thirteenth place.

Race two, which was run in wet conditions, started okay for Palmer off the line, before he was hit on the run to the first corner by another driver, which led to him being in tenth after the first corner.

He then set about making up the lost ground, putting in quick laps and passing Keith Donegan with a brave move into Druids and Oli Basey-Fisher with a well timed switch back from Clearways.

Pushing hard to catch the group ahead however, Will ran wide onto the very slippery astro on the exit of paddock, and lost the back of the car, meaning he was beached in the gravel and unable to finish the race.

"It's been a very disappointing weekend for me really, especially after how well Silverstone went. The troubles came from qualifying really as I was stuck in the group despite having faster pace which is always frustrating. Hopefully I'll learn from the mistakes made this weekend, and put what I've learnt this season to good use next year!"
