Q&A with Will Palmer

15-year-old William Palmer embarks on his first full season in motorsport this year, racing with HHC Motorsport in the highly competitive Ginetta Junior Championship. We caught up with the schoolboy from Southwater to hear his thoughts on the upcoming season...

2012 is a big year for you with your first full season in motorsport - how are you feeling about it?
I'm really excited to be doing my first full season of Ginetta Juniors with HHC Motorsport. I competed in a few races last year and learnt a lot, and now I'm looking to build on that experience this season.

How are preparations going for the start of the season?
Things are going really well. I've done three days of testing at Brands Hatch, Snetterton and Donington Park and I've improved every time, with my best session being at Donington Park so I'm really pleased with how things have gone.

What goals have you set yourself for this year?
I learnt a lot in the few races I did last year so now I am looking to build on that this season, with a target of fighting for the top six positions in the championship.

Being only 15 and still at school, is it hard to fit in both your racing and study commitments?
Getting good GCSE results is of course really important and I need to make sure my racing is not too much of a distraction or my parents and teachers won't be too happy! I'm confident I can combine the two ok though and now I just can't wait for the season to start.

And finally, you come from a very successful motorsport family with your dad being a former F1 driver and your older brother Jolyon in GP2. What's it like having their experience to call upon?
They've both been brilliant and really supportive and of course we always chat motorsport when together at home!

Will's opening Ginetta Junior race takes place at his home circuit of Brands Hatch on 1 April.
