Knockhill disappointment for Palmer
Will Palmer endured a weekend which could easily have yielded far better results than the eighth and tenth place finishes it provided.
Will started the weekend by qualifying in seventh place for both races in a very wet session, despite being in the top five for most of it until the last few laps when most of the field saw their times drop on the drying track, but unfortunately Will made a mistake on his last flying lap which cost him a top five starting place.
Race one started in very wet conditions with Palmer making a good start from seventh to maintain position through the first few corners. An error coming out of the slippery Clarke corner cost Will two positions, one of which he reclaimed two corners later by outbraking Pepe Massot into turn three.
Palmer was then right behind Andrew Watson, but a slightly mistimed move while challenging for seventh cost him dearly as he was spun to the back of the field, meaning he was only able to bring the car home in tenth place.
Race two got underway in dry conditions with Will making a good start once again, although he did lose a place to the very fast starting Andrew Watson, before finding himself in fifth place following three other drivers spinning on the exit of the chicane.
Palmer was then resisting pressure from Pepe Massot whilst also trying to catch Ollie Chadwick for fourth place. Massot lunged up the inside of Will into the hairpin, but as Will was getting the cutback out of the corner to regain the place, Harry Woodhead hit the side of him with a misjudged move, forcing him into Pepe, causing the Spaniard to spin right in front of Palmer, who then had to get right out of the power to get going again, meaning he fell to tenth place.
Will then passed Tom Jackson on track in similar fashion to how he had dispatched Pepe Massot in the previous race at turn three, before moving up to eighth place following Ollie Basey-Fisher's retirement and finishing just half a second behind Woodhead at the chequered flag, finishing with the fifth fastest laptime of the race.
"The results this weekend were very disappointing as they should have been better, as we knew we had good pace in the wet before the incident in race one, and in race two I was shoved out of what would have been a good fifth place through no real fault of my own, but hopefully we can come back stronger at the next rounds and get that podium place we have been searching for, as I know we are capable of it."
